Local Publisher

Privacy and newsletters

What we collect when you sign up or get in touch, why, and how to change your mind. Last updated 24 October 2026.

The short version. A title’s newsletter starts only after you confirm your address. Each title’s newsletter is separate. We never sell your details. To stop any email, reply to it with “unsubscribe” or write to hello@localpublisher.co.uk.

Who we are

Local Publisher and its 16 publications are published by Byter Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (number 11372197), registered office 33 Cavendish Square, London W1G 0PW. Byter Ltd is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@localpublisher.co.uk.

This notice covers this site and the newsletters and enquiry forms of every title listed below.

How newsletter sign-up works

  • You enter your email address on a title’s site.
  • We send one email asking you to confirm. Until you press the confirm button, you are not on any list and we will not write again.
  • Once you confirm, you receive that title’s newsletter, and only that one.

Signing up to one title does not sign you up to the others. If you want several, sign up on each one.

The network email

Where a form offers it, you can also tick a box to receive an occasional “best of the network” email with picks from across our titles. The box is never ticked for you, and you can leave it without affecting your newsletter.

The Network Brief

The Network Brief is a monthly email for partners and advertisers, signed up for on our Brief page. We ask only for an email address, with your name and business if you want to give them. Signing up is your request to receive it (your consent). We send one welcome email straight away so you know it worked. Each issue tells you how to leave, and replying “unsubscribe” always works.

What we collect

WhenWhatWhy and on what basis
Newsletter sign-upEmail address, the title, when you signed up and confirmed, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your connection addressTo send the newsletter you asked for (your consent). The hashed address only limits repeat sign-ups, to stop bots signing up strangers.
The Network BriefEmail address, and your name and business if you give themTo send the Brief you asked for (your consent).
Advertising or partner enquiryName, email, business, website, and what you tell usTo reply and, if you want, to prepare a proposal (our legitimate interest in answering you).
Emailing usYour message and addressTo answer you.

We do not buy lists, we do not sell or rent your details, and we do not add you to a list you did not ask for.

Who else handles it

We use a small number of service providers who process data for us under contract and only on our instructions:

  • Resend, to deliver emails.
  • Supabase, to store sign-ups and enquiries.
  • Vercel, to host our sites.
  • Cloudflare, where a form uses its check to tell people from bots.

Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where they do, they are covered by UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter: for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep only your address and the date, so that we never email you again by mistake.
  • An unconfirmed sign-up: the confirm link expires after 7 days, and we never email that address again unless someone signs it up again.
  • Enquiries: up to two years after we last spoke, unless we go on to work together.

Manage your newsletters

  • To stop a newsletter, reply to any email from it with “unsubscribe”, or email hello@localpublisher.co.uk with the title’s name.
  • To stop everything from every title, email us with the subject “Unsubscribe from all”.
  • To sign up to another title, use its newsletter page:

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@localpublisher.co.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
